RE:REGARDING GOVERNMENT DECISION TO SPENT RM 4.3 BILLION (ORIGINALLY RM 2.6 BILLION) TO BUILD THE PENANG BRIDGE SECOND LINK.
EVENTHOUGH THE DESIGNS LOOKS MESMERIZING TO PENANGITES, BUT THEN IT WOULD NOT BE SO ENJOYABLE SOON WHEN IT COMPLETED.
HERE IS MY POINT
1. DISTANCE TO (2ND PENANG BRIDGE)BATU KAWAN ENTRANCE FROM MAIN CITY IN PENINSULAR
KEPALA BATAS AND KULIM = 40 KM
BUTTERWORTH = 30 KM
BUKIT MERTAJAM = 20 KM
NIBONG TEBAL = 1O KM
(DISTANCE WAS CALCULATED FROM MAIN CENTRE OF EACH CITY)
2. DISTANCE TO (2ND PENANG BRIDGE)BATU MAUNG EXIT FROM MAIN CITY IN ISLAND
BATU FERINGHI = 40 KM
GEORGETOWN & TANJUNG = 20-30KM
BUKIT JAMBUL = 10 KM
BAYAN LEPAS = 5 KM
(DISTANCE WAS CALCULATED FROM MAIN CENTRE OF EACH CITY)
3. THE PENANG BRIDGE SECOND LINK LENGTH WILL BE 24 KM
4. RIGHT NOW CALCULATE YOUR JOURNEY FROM YOUR HOME TO USE THE NEW SECOND LINK FOR BOTH WAYS RETURN JOURNEY
for eg : BUKIT MERTAJAM 20 KM --> SECOND LINK 24 KM --> GEORGETOWN 25 KM
EQUAL TO 128 KM (69KM X 2) KM AT LEAST
5. TIMES YOUR FUEL CONSUMPTION (RM2.70 PER) LITER KM
for eg : 50 KM YOU HAVE TO PAID RM 10.00 (RANDOM CALCULATION)
RM 10 / 50 KM EQUAL TO RM0.20/KM
6. SO :- RM0.20/KM X 128 KM X 22 WORKINGS DAYS PER MONTH EQUAL TO RM 563.20/ MONTH
7. THE TOLL FOR 24 KM WOULD BE HIGHER THAN THE CURRENT BRIDGE RM 7. ASSUMED TOLL ATLEAST RM 10
SO RM 563.20 X RM 220 ( RM 10 X 22 WORKING DAYS) = " RM 783.20
"THEREFORE THE USERS NEED TO PAY WITHIN RM 700- 900 TO USE SECOND LINK ".
8. AFTERALL THE NEW SECOND LINK WAS USEFUL FOR TRAFFIC FROM SOUTH PENINSULAR. HOWEVER FOR PENANGITES.............
9. WHEN WE RECALL BACK, THE STATE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING VERY HARD TO 'REDUCE NUMBER OF TRAFFIC AT PENANG ISLAND'. HOWEVER THE PLAN TO BUILD THE NEW SECOND LINK IS "ONE OF WAY TO INCREASE NUMBER OF VEHICLES IN THE ISLAND". IT JUST ADVERSE.
10. OUR GOVERNMENT GOALS IS TO ENHANCE PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM."THEREFORE SYSTEMATIC AND STRATEGIC 'RAIL AND BUS SYSTEM' ARE ESSENTIAL TO ACHIEVE THIS OBJECTIVES".
11. "WHAT DO WE REALLY NEED RITE NOW IS A MONOREL SYSTEM FROM THE MAIN ISLAND TO THE ISLAND THRO THE PENANG BRIDGE ".
12. "THE MONOREL TERMINAL SHOULD BE BUILD AT PACIFIC MEGAMALL PRAI FROM MAIN ISLAND AND AT TESCO PENANG ON THE ISLAND WHICH I CONSIDER WOULD BE THE STRATEGIC TERMINAL. THE RAIL WILL MOVE THROUGH THE EXTENSION LANE(COSTING RM600MILLION) BUILD AT PENANG BRIDGE TODAY".
13. ANOTHER 'STRATEGIC RAIL SYSTEM LINK' MUST BE BUILT IN THE ISLAND TO COPE WITH THE TRAFFIC VOLUMES.
14. I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE COST WILL BE LOWER THAN THE PENANG BRIDGE SECOND LINK.
HOPE PRESENT STATE GOVERNMENT AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COULD SEE THIS!!
THEREFORE, I CONCLUDED WITH:
I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST THAT THE ADDITIONAL LANE ON THE EXISTING PENANG BRIDGE BUILT TO BE DEDICATED "TO BUSES AND TRAMS OR EXCLUSIVELY FOR RAIL" OR "BUILD A NEW LANE TO BE DEDICATED FOR RAIL LINK PARALLEL TO THE BRIDGE".
